Choke cherry (Prunus virginiana)

The Chokecherry tree is like a superhero in our Santa Fe backyards! While some plants are just pretty to look at, the Chokecherry does two big jobs at once. It offers tasty nectar for adult bees, moths, and butterflies to drink, and its leaves are a healthy snack that helps hundreds of baby caterpillars grow big and strong. It is even the favorite home of the Two-Tailed Swallowtail, New Mexico’s very own state butterfly!
