WORDS FROM OUR GUEST ARTIST:

As a kid, LEGO was always one of my favorite creative outlets, even if my mom wasn’t always thrilled with the messes I made with it. I didn’t reconnect with LEGO until I was an adult while babysitting my friend’s daughter, Audrey Ortiz, around the same time I also gained a deeper appreciation for Zozobra. After attending ZozoFest in 2017 and seeing artists recreate Zozobra through painting, jewelry, sculpture, and other artistic mediums, I realized I had never seen a LEGO version before. That inspired me to create my first LEGO Zozobra, and from 2017 through the 100-year anniversary of Zozobra in 2024, I created a new version each year. In 2024, I completed six different LEGO Zozobra sets, with three of them being mosaics created from photographs I had personally taken throughout the years. My hope is that kids and adults alike continue building their own LEGO interpretations of Zozobra and ultimately create something even greater than I ever could.
