Discovering the joys of learning, play, and community
OUR MISSION
The Santa Fe Children’s Museum (SFCM) is based on a simple idea: children learn by doing. The Museum fosters connections among children and families through interactive exhibits and programs. Founded in 1985, SFCM reflects our diverse community through playful bilingual learning experiences. The Museum engages visitors of all ages by presenting creative and meaningful education with interactive hands-on exhibits and programs.
We are able to fulfill our mission of providing critical life-changing programs to children and families across the state of New Mexico because of donors like YOU!
OUTDOOR EQUITY
Grow with us as we embark on an exciting and transformative master plan renovation of our outdoor space, The Backyard. This master plan developed with the National Wildlife Federation and ECHO (Early Childhood Health Outdoors) along with local firm Surroundings Studio, redesigns our space to reflect ADA upgrades and a nature-based health equity strategy, to serve all our children and families for many years to come.
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT & LEARNING
We help children from birth through age five develop a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime. Our Wee Wednesday program, hands-on activities, and early childhood exhibits provide places where all families are welcome and learn together.
STEAM EDUCATION
Stargazer, our portable planetarium, is a pop-up COVID-safe dome that can be set up nearly anywhere to ignite interest in the sciences, astronomy, and beyond. Due to a generous grant, Stargazer trips to public and Title 1schools in Northern New Mexico are FREE!
OUTREACH
Programs such as Grab & Go Kits, hands-on learning at home, and our upcoming mobile Museum, provide critical learning and fill the education gap for thousands of New Mexico children and families residing in rural and tribal areas.
COMMUNITY GARDEN & FOOD ASSISTANCE
For 37 years our sustainable Community Garden has invited children and families to explore hands-on gardening and conservation. To address food insecurity, with volunteers & community organizations1,000 lbs. of fresh produce is distributed each year from our garden to families in need.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS
Our seasonal camps offer fun and learning for campers ages 5–8. STEAM education is our focus with weekly theme-based projects and activities! Through camp scholarships, we have been able to provide children the opportunity to attend these unique week-long adventures every season.
