The Golden Currant plant is like a yummy breakfast café for bugs waking up from their long winter nap! Its bright yellow flowers look like tiny trumpets and smell just like sweet spices. One of the Golden Currant’s most famous visitors is the Queen Bumble Bee.

When the Queen wakes up early in the spring, she is all by herself and very hungry. She visits these flowers to drink their sweet juice, called nectar. This gives her the superpower energy she needs to fly around and build a cozy new home for her bee
family!

In Santa Fe, this special plant has a very best
friend called the Yucca Moth. These two are
“forever friends” because the plant can’t
make seeds without the moth’s help.

When the sun starts to set, the yucca flow-
ers smell like sweet candy to invite the tiny,

white moths over for a visit. While the moths
are there, they move pollen from flower to
flower to create seeds.
The moth helps the Yucca, and in return, the
plant lets the moth’s tiny caterpillars eat a
few of those seeds to grow big and strong.
